Coast to Coast to Coast launch August 17 2017
Coast to Coast to Coast, a hand stitched poetry journal with fabric cover will launch in Liverpool. The journal, which aims to be as much a piece of art as a poetry journal without the art or poetry being compromised came out of ideas I’d been working on with Michael during the time we were writing, reading and running some workshops in galleries on Merseyside.
We don't want to compete with the wonderful poetry journals and magazines which are being published especially in the UK and Ireland but want to offer something which as a piece of art can evolve and which brings art and poetry together. Michael and I were mostly creating poetry linked to art or the river, and the journal and its title have links to that work.
We wanted to create a journal which was different to other poetry journals and magazines we admire and have subscribed to, and I wanted the journal to be a small piece of art in itself.
I’m interested in how poetry can be read / heard differently depending on context, and hope that the journals and launch will provide a pleasing context for the wonderful poetry Michael and I have selected from the submissions for the first issue.
The first launch event:
will involve readings, music, refreshments and short talks. The handmade stitched journals will be for sale on the night.
